Birth Announcement: On the 29th [April] Johann Curth Pausch's wife Anna Catharina nee Hannsteinin was blessed with a son, who was baptized on May 1. Godfather was Henrich Henckel, a local inhabitant. The child was named Johann Henrich.

John married Elizabeth Hohl in Germany in 1813. They had 7 children, 1 daughter and 6 sons. Their first born, Johann Conrad, was 6 weeks old when he died.

An 1830 census shows John and Elizabeth living in Speckswinkel, Germany. This is a small village in Hesse-Cassel, in central Germany. Until the late 1800's there were several Hessian states, usually distinguished by the name of their capital city, in this case the City of Cassel. Hesse-Cassel was annexed by Prussia in 1866. Speckswinkel is near the larger town of Marburg.

John and Elizabeth immigrated to America in 1834, arriving in America on July 23rd. They came on the ship La Plata. They settled in Franklin county, Indiana 3 years later. Eventually they made the move to Andover, Harrison county, Missouri.

When the Pausch brothers, sons of Johann Heinrich and Elizabeth Hohl, immigrated to the United States, the spelling of the name became Poush.
