UNSOLVED MURDER IN TRILBY
Born Christmas Eve 1879 in Hernando County, present day Pasco County, Florida, John was one of 10 children born to Joe and Arletta O'Berry. On August 17, 1913; John lost his precious daughter, Sudie Jewell who was only two weeks from celebrating her 4th birthday. Then just two years later, tragedy would strike again when his younger daughter, Eula May passed away just weeks after celebrating her 3rd birthday. As if things had not been hard enough for the O'Berry family; simply nine days after Eula May's tragic death and hardly even a week after burying her tiny body in that little white coffin lined with red velvet; John was murdered in Trilby. He was shot and killed by an unknown party or parties the night of November 6, 1915. The court did not have enough evidence to warrant an indictment in his murder. There would NEVER be justice for John O'Berry or his loved ones. They would die knowing no one would ever stand trial for his murder. I often wonder if there is anything worse than having a loved one murdered? I believe there is ° never finding the person or persons who murdered them ° never being able to seek justice.
