Death Of Mr. Amasa J. Hoyt
"Amasa J. Hoyt passed to the higher life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Willis A. Parker in Binghamton, on Sunday January 11, 1903, survived his wife but 6 days. Mr. Hoyt was born in Greene May 2d, 1825. His parents were Chauncey and Amelia Hoyt. He began his business career in Coventry, at the age of 14, as a clerk. Afterword in the same town forming a partnership with Edgar Phillips, under the firm name of Phillips & Hoyt, continuing in business until 1898, when he retired, moving to Binghamton in the fall of 1901.
Mr. Hoyt was known as a man of strict integrity and uprightness, by all who dealt with him, during his long business life of 60 years.
In early youth, consecrating himself to the Master, he became a devoted disciple. As a follower of Christ he has left a beautiful example of a pure and noble Christian character. in the support of the church and its work, he was the most generous contributor and in attendance upon its ordinances and performance of duties connected there with, the epitome of fidelity. He was a Deacon of the Second Congregational Church of Coventry for 85 years.
In the death of Mr. Hoyt the world has lost one of the best types of a true Christian gentleman and is the power there by.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. S. H. Berry of Dover, New Jersey and Mrs. W. A. Parker of Binghamton; and three sisters."
Note: Mrs. S. H. Berry is Alice Louisa Hoyt, wife of Stephen H. Berry and mother of Nellie Berry.
