Walter Edwin "Eddie" Caplinger also known as "Cappy", 79, of Frankfort went to be with our Heavenly Father, Monday, May 12, 2014 at 11:17 p.m. at the OSU Medical Center - Ross Heart Center, following an extended illness. Walter was born on August 31, 1934 in Ross County to the late Walter and Jessie Beatrice Kellough Caplinger. On April 3, 1957 he married the former Clarabelle Mae Cunningham and she survives.


Also surviving are his children; Sherry (Tim) Clary of Frankfort, Edwin Anthony "Tony" Caplinger of Frankfort, Bret Allan Caplinger of Washington C.H., Terry (Lynn) Russell of Chillicothe, eleven grandchildren; Travis and Adam Clary, Neeley (Jeff) Allen, Jessica (Matt) Warth, Jacob and Jared Caplinger, Brettney Smith, Rusty and Jade Caplinger, Jacob Russell and Jessica Maulz, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter; Tammera Lynn Caplinger and a grandson; John "Johnny" Edwin Keeton.


Walter was a US Army Veteran serving from 1957 to 1959 in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1962. He was a member of the Joseph Ellsworth White Post 483 Frankfort American Legion and the Chillicothe American Veterans Post 4.


He was 1952 graduate of Huntington High School where he played basketball and baseball for all four years. He retired from the Mead Paper Corporation in 1994 after forty one years and ten months of service.


Walter was an avid race car driver in stock cars and sprint cars at Atomic Speedway, in which he was one of the founders before being drafted into the United States Army. Later he also bred and raced horses in harness racing.


Walter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was dearly loved by his family and will be sadly missed.


Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort with Pastor Bruce Viar officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort with military honors accorded by the Ross County Honor Guard. Friends are invited to visit with Walter's family at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m..
