William Cortland McDonald Sr., 72, of Elkton, died Thursday, April 16, 2015, at his home.

William (Bill) Cortland McDonald, Sr., 72, of Elkton passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 at his home.

He was born June 18, 1942 in Norfolk, the son of the late Robert and Dorothy Levine McDonald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William (Billy) McDonald, Jr.

Bill was a former Norfolk police officer, private investigator, deputy treasurer for the City of Norfolk, and owner of 33rd Precient Rest. In 1985, Bill and Susan moved to Elkton where he owned & operated “Elkton Country Inn” for more than 20 years. He loved the Boy Scouts, serving as Scout Master both in Norfolk and Elkton, and as a member of the Masonic Lodge, performed as a clown, also enjoyed carving canes, collecting & selling, and coffee at McDonalds. He never met a stranger, and was a devoted husband and father, not only to his children, but their friends as well. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elkton.

On September 16, 1984 he wed the former, Susan Miller who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Scott McDonald (Carla) of Chesapeake, Brian McDonald (Gwen) of Chesapeake; daughters, Cortland and Jessica McDonald of Elkton; stepsons, Chris Mason (Angie) and Nickie Mason of California; grandchildren, Seth, Samantha, Chelsea, Alexis and Sydney McDonald, and Chase Mason; brothers, Robert and John McDonald, and a sister, Patricia McDonald.

A memorial service will be held 2pm on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Elkton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church PO Box 221, Elkton, Virginia 22827 or the Boy Scouts Stonewall District Summer Campership Fund, 222, 801Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro, VA or Sentara Hahn Cancer Center, 2008 Health Campus Drive, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22801 or EAUS, PO Box 383, Elkton, Virginia 22827.
