Jean Marie (Fleming) Byrne, wife of Philip J. Byrne III, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on February 27, 2018. Mrs. Byrne was born February 21, 1929 in Boston Massachusetts, daughter of Lillian C. (O’Neil) Fleming and John A. Fleming. She graduated from the Boston Academy of Notre Dame and Boston Teacher’s college where she was president of her senior class. She was a resident of Cheshire for 62 years.

Mrs. Byrne organized the Dodd P.T.O. for the elementary school and was Co-Vice Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Cheshire High School P.T.O. As an active member of the Cheshire High School Booster Club, she was responsible for organizing the sports banquets for many years. She was a member and past secretary of the Copper Valley Club. Mrs. Byrne was a lover of dogs and a member and past president of the Cheshire Dog Training Club. She enjoyed sharing her Newfoundlands and Lanciers at parades and having the dogs visit as companions with various organizations. She was blessed with special friends, Kathy Queen, Lorriane and Bill Dombrowski, Judy and Richard Kasarcuck. She taught skiing for many years at Mt. Southington and was a member of the Rocky Hill Square Dance Club.

Jean was a communicant of St. Bridget Church and a member of the St. Bridget Ladies Guild. She and her late husband Phil enjoyed many years of camping, square dancing, and traveling with their special friends Gene and Jayne Girdwood.

She was predeceased by her husband Phil of 61 years on 4/29/2012. She is survived by one daughter, Katherine T. Begin and husband Robert of Hardwick, MA, and three sons: Philip J. Byrne IV and wife Nancy of Langley, WA, Edward R. Byrne and wife, Anne of Boulder, CO, and James R. Byrne and wife Kathleen of Syracuse, NY, nine grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and the Girdwood clan.
