David Allen (Bubba) Abernathy, 70, of Anahuac, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015. He was born October 17, 1944 in Alvin, Texas to David and Pauline Abernathy. In 1954, his parents moved the family Baytown to Anahuac. Bubba married his lifelong sweetheart and the love of his life, Mary Annette Willcox, on September 19, 1964. He is preceded in death by parents David Clayton and Pauline Frances Armstrong Abernathy and nephew, James L. Abernathy, Jr.

After graduating from Anahuac High School, Bubba joined the United States Air Force and served eight years. He is a Vietnam Veteran, and was trained in radar and electronics. After the service, he and Annette moved back to Anahuac. They owned and operated Abernathy's Meat Market for over 25 years. Bubba was the original founder of the Chambers County Youth Project Show 100 Club, and served as County Commissioner for six years. Bubba was active in many community organizations that included Anahuac Little League, Anahuac Optimist Club, Lion's Club, American Legion, Anahuac Chamber of Commerce, Chambers County Youth Project Show and Anahuac Emergency Corp. He was a member of Our Lady of Light Catholic Church and Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Bubba is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary A. Abernathy; son Brent Allen Abernathy and Stacy Hodge; daughter Lynna Renee and husband Cris Stephenson; grandchildren: Chance Edward Stephenson, Owen David Stephenson, Maggie Annette Stephenson, Holly Catherine Abernathy, Jacob (Jake) Allen Abernathy, Megan Helane Abernathy, and Colby Blain Hodge; sisters, Alice Dawson and husband Ferd, of Brookeland, Texas and Laura Tidwell, of Winnie, Texas; brothers, Dale Abernathy and wife Jackie, of Wimberley, Texas and James Abernathy and wife Sandy, of Wimberley, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and a host of friends.

A visitation with the family will be on Monday, April 20, 2014 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm with a rosary to be recited at 7:00pm in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., Anahuac, Texas.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church, 2207 S. Main St., Anahuac, Texas, with Rev. Khanh Ho and Mr. Eugene R. LeBlanc officiating.

Rite of committal will follow in Anahuac Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers for Bubba will be Steve Moorman, Robert Moorman, Donnie Abernathy, Ronnie Abernathy, David Abernathy, Clayton Abshier, Taz Abernathy and Michael Willcox.
