Alfred E. Hyde, 92, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015.
Mr. Hyde was born in Batavia, N.Y. on April 28, 1922, and retired to Fairhope in April 1986 after 40 years of service with the railroad as a locomotive engineer in western New York.
Mr. Hyde was a Marine and veteran of World War II, and was proud to participate in Honor Flight South Alabama in September 2012.
He was an avid reader and Jumbo puzzle solver, who kept a daily journal of weather statistics and family memories.
He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with his Batavia friends before retirement. He also enjoyed his daily walks, and always helped with the housework.
Mr. Hyde is survived by his wife, Alice Rowcliffe Hyde, and they had just celebrated 67 years of marriage on March 27. He is also survived by four daughters, Carolyn (David) Hare and Marilyn Hyde (Wayne Wilbur), both of Fairhope, Nadine Bussiere of El Paso, Texas and Susan Ward of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Betty Rumfola of Avon, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Richard) Cadieux, Katie (Gerald) Tipton, Jodi (James) Vaughn, Stephanie (Jeffrey) McDowell, Jaclyn (J.D. Johnston) Bussiere, Jessica Ward and Jason Ward; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A military service will be held Friday, April 24, 2015, at 1:30 p.m., at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort.
