Loid Hutchins, son of Thomas Jefferson Hutchins and Nancy Taylor Keesee Hutchins, was born in Dassel, Meeker County, Minnesota, USA. His mother contracted Measles and died on December 1, 1879. Thomas Jefferson Hutchins then moved the family to the Deer Park area of Spokane County, Washington, USA.

Loid married Maud Bell Hoisington, daughter of John Marcus Oliver Hoisington, on October 9, 1899, in Spokane, Spokane County, Washington USA. Seven of their nine children were born in this area.

On October 16, 1916, they emigrated to the Ross Creek area of Alberta, Canada. Their two youngest children were born at Tofield.

Loid died of a stroke at his daughter, Zora Edith Ford's home on May 19, 1936, and was interred in the Cavell Cemetery on May 19, 1936.
