David was born November 16, 1940 in the Town of Gibson, Manitowoc County, son of the late William and Norma Soukup Sladkey. He attended Mishicot High School. On February 25, 1961 David was married to JoAnn E. Stanul at Manitowoc. In the past David had worked for Burny Bros. Bakery in Chicago; Dick Bros. Bakery in Manitowoc and Heilemann's Bakery in Milwaukee. The couple moved back to Manitowoc in 2001. He was a member of the Bakery and Confectionery Union.
Survivors include his wife: JoAnn E. Sladkey, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Craig (Sandra) Sladkey, Franklinton, NC; one step son and daughter-in-law: Steven (Darlene) Holly, Ocala, FL; one step daughter: Sheila Free, Manitowoc; 7 step grandchildren; 15 step great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law: Gerald (Marge) Sladkey, Two Rivers; two sisters: Doris Lawrenz, Manitowoc; Nancy Kubichek, Appleton; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his parents William Sladkey and Norma (Soukup) Sladkey Rosso two brothers-in-law: David Lawrenz and Delmar Kubichek.
Private family services were held at the Knollwood Mausoleum Chapel. The Rev. Richard Klingeisen officiated with inurnment of his cremated remains in the Knollwood Mausoleum.
