Andrew Brakke was born on Jan. 7, 1914, at the family homestead to Andrew T. and Anna (Overgaard) Brakke.
He attended country school and Presho Grade School, and graduated from Presho High School in 1930.
On Oct. 6, 1934, he married Lura Elaine Stephenson at Lewiston, Idaho. They moved onto the Walker place in the spring of 1939. He farmed and ranched in the Presho area. He and Lura spent part of the winter months in Arizona for 36 years.
Andy served on the township board and with the county ASC committee and state ASC. He helped organize the South Dakota Wheat Producers, held office in the South Dakota Wheat Commission and Great Plains Wheat, and served on the South Dakota State Fair board in various positions. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, photography and reading.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Noble and wife Alys Ann of Presho, Kay and husband J.D. Callaway of Brookshire, Texas, David of Presho and Kim and wife Donna of Presho; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, V. Dean and wife Marion and Harold and wife Jean Anne; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Myrtle, Annabel, Ina, Thelma and Ellen; and three brothers, Verne, Thomas and Sanford.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Organization.
