True Republican, 20 September 1930

Fred Maxfield, 75 years of age, of a well known pioneer family of this community, died suddenly of heart trouble this Friday morning at his home in Rockford.

He had been suffering for the last two years and a few weeks spent in California last winter was expected to improve his condition. He was in Sycamore two weeks ago visiting Mrs. Jennie Willard and his many other friends in Sycamore and DeKalb.

He was born on the Maxfield homestead farm about three miles north of Sycamore, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Maxfield.

He was married first to Minnie Cook of Sycamore and later to Mary Hooker of Malta. He moved with his wife to Rockford about eight years ago. He is survived by three sons, Glenn, Gilbert and Fred, all of Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Hetty Talbot of Rochester, N.Y., and Mrs. Jane Cotta of Rockford. One sister, Mrs. Anna Bunker of Pasadena, Calif., whom he visited last winter, also survives.

Funeral services will be held at the home, 425 Jilson avenue, Rockford, on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. The remains will be brought to Sycamore, arriving here at about 3:30 o'clock, and will be interred in the family lot in Elmwood cemetery.
