Carl D Stewart was born in little log cabin in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, in 1915. He was the middle son of 5 boys born to, Samuel Barney Stewart & his wife, Rosa "Brown" Stewart, who were farmers. Carl and his brothers loved to roam the woods, rivers, lakes and creeks, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lena H. "Cross" Stewart, 6 daughters and 1 son. He also leaves behind a wealth of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He served in the Philippine Islands during World War II, as a Cook and a Chaplin while on board ship and on land, serving from 1944 to 1946. He received 6 military Decorations while in service: World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, AP Theater Ribbon, One Bronze Service Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and a Bronze Star-(CO 23 Nq USA 45). He rose to the rank of sergeant during his time in service to his country.
In 1951, with 6 of their 7 children, they loaded up their car and moved to Empire, Oregon in order to obtain better paying work during the boom that had hit that area. They remained in Oregon for 20 years before returning to Arkansas in 1971. They then purchased a 20 acre farm in Lake Village, Arkansas that had belonged to one of his uncles and built a home there. He did some small-scale farming but he also started his own Appliance Repair business, which he successfully ran until he retired.
He was an Elder and Minister in the Seventh Day Assembly and/or Church of God; he building a small chapel on his property for services. He is fondly remembered by many as being a joyful man who cared about people and their needs.
He is widely remembered as a prolific story writer as well. His writings consist of both, Bible materials "Bible Studies, Sermons and Stories for Children" of all ages. His grandchildren, as well as his own children, remember him telling exciting stories through the years. Some of his stories have been published and provided to churches for their children's classes, school libraries and public libraries; they are also posted on the Ministry Web-site: http://preachersteacher.org for all who would like to read and enjoy.

Carl D. Stewart, 88, of Lake Village, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at his residence. He was a retired appliance repairman, an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a Seventh Day Church of God minister. He was born February 10, 1915, in Cotton Valley, LA, the son of the late Samuel Barney Stewart and Rosa Brown Stewart.Survivors include his wife, Lena Cross Stewart; one son, Derwood Allen Stewart of Hamburg; six daughters, Fonda Matthews of Lake Village, Jean Oden of Odessa, TX, Betty Quackenbush of Coos Bay, OR, Reta Bodecker of North Bend, OR, Rose Bradford of Hamburg and Delaris Peacock of Dublin, TX; one brother, Henry Stewart of Springhill, LA; 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 2, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Bishop Funeral Home of Lake Village.
