Alma was the daughter of Benjamin Baily Hughes and Fannie Sheffield. She married Alfred Morton Downey on December 27, 1896 in Cleburn, Texas. They later moved to Oklahoma where she lived out the rest of her life. Thier Children: James Audie 1897, Benjamin 1900, Mertie 1902, Ephie Pearly 1904, Alfred Weldon 1906, Hecto D 1910, Sam 1912, Minnie Bell 1914.
