Kunigunde/Kunigunda came to America with her daughter, Kunigunda, about 1866. In her daughter Kunigunda's obit, it says her mother was already widowed when coming to America.
In the 1880 census Kunigunde/Kunigunda and her daughter are living in Altoona with a Johanna Seidel (widowed born abt 1824 in Austria). Not sure is Johanna is related to the Seidel family that daughter Kunigunda married into yet.
Before coming to America she graduated from the government maternity hospital in Bavaria, and she followed nursing all her life, being well known throughout the city for her many acts of charity and sacrifice for those in need of help. For years she was noted as a midwife and was especially well known among the older members of the medical profession.
I can only wonder what brought this widowed midwife from Bavaria along with her small daughter to America.
