Anna was born in Monmouthshire, Wales on July 6, 1836 to John and Margaret (Watkins) Appleton. She married George Sage Feb 1855 in Crickhowell, Brecknockshire, Wales. They had one child in Wales (a son), Thomas Sage before coming to the United States in May of 1864. Once in the U.S., Anna and George settled in Plymouth, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania and had two more children---another son, William Sage and their only daughter, Mary Ellen Sage Clemow Edwards. Anna and George divorced and she married her second husband, Thomas Carter in Plymouth, Pennsylvania in 1875. They resided in Plymouth for many years until moving to Dorranceton, Luzerne County where Thomas passed away on Sept 4, 1812. After Thomas' death, Anna returned to Plymouth and lived there until she passed away exactly one year later on Sept 4, 1913. Anna was buried on Sept. 7 in lot number 1051.
