Raymond Edward Wall, 87, passed away Monday, June 5, 2006 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born March 10, 1919, in Pittsburgh, to the late Raymond and Agnes Hayes Wall. His wife of 48 years, Virginia O. Wall, preceded him in death December 15, 1993. Ray is survived by three daughters, Judith, wife of James W. Kiel, and Virginia, wife of Michael Fetterolf, all of Mechanicsburg and Linda Kauffman of Dillsburg; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Mr. Wall served the United States of America with great dignity, valor, and honor. During the Second World War, Japanese soldiers captured Ray. He endured great physical and mental torture at their hands from May 1942, until the end of the war in August of 1945. For his stalwart bravery while being detained by the enemy, the Navy awarded Mr. Wall the Prisoner of War Medal and promoted him to the rank of Warrant Officer. In 1968, he retired from the U.S. Navy with more than twenty years of service, and many decorations for his numerous accomplishments during his distinguished career. In 1974, he retired as a Supplies System Analyst from the Navy Fleet Material Support Office, Mechanicsburg. Mr. Wall belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post #109 in Mechanicsburg, Disabled American Veterans, and Fleet Reserve Officers Associations. He loved to bowl and for many years did so with the Navy Depot Bowling League and later, the Senior Citizen Bowling League. Graveside service with full military honors at Indiantown Gap Monday, June 12. [Harrisburg Patriot-News]
