Herbert Oscar Hallberg, Jr

Born: April 10, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York

Died: April 22, 2015 at Chattanooga, Tennessee

Beloved husband, father, brother and friend

Graduated from Fort Hamilton High School, Brooklyn NY and enlisted in the US Air Force. Served honorably for more than four years with tours in North Africa, Japan and Germany. After his service he graduated from RCA Institute. He was a field engineer doing maintenance and repair on CT and MRI systems. He retired from GE Medical Systems.

He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Brenda, who loved him dearly. She “lost the best of her, her right side arm”. He is also survived by a son, Matt Murphy and family in Georgia, a sister Grace McComas and husband Chuck, a brother Art Hallberg, several nieces and nephews and special friends Ted and Shirley Schalk.

He was preceded in death by his mother Gladys Berentsen and his beloved son Scott Hallberg.

He attended Harrison United Methodist Church and was universally known as a gentle, loving, intelligent soul.

Herbert, an exceptional and gentle man, loved by his family as he loved them. Never a mean word to any one and would never let family do without. Throughout his life he had to overcome physical and emotional problems and became a better man because of them. He loved good food, good wine and good beer. We celebrate his life, a life that will be missed indeed.

He has gone to live with Our Heavenly Father on April 22nd. His last days on earth were truly enjoyed with his loving wife, Brenda, and wonderful friends, Ted and Shirley. He had been happy and relaxed talking with his brother and sister on Sunday. Such a good man we know is with the Lord today.

If you choose to make a donation in memory of Herb please do it to Harrison United Methodist Church, The Salvation Army or the Humane Society.
