He was born January 25, 1915, in Angola, Indiana, son of George and Zora McGrew. He came to Utica in 1934 from Eagle Rock, CA. On November 22, 1941, he married Lee Barry, daughter of the late James P. and Mary Barry. Mr McGrew served as a bomber pilot while in the Army Air Force from January 1942 until December 1945.
He joined the Partlow Corporation in 1946 and filled increasingly responsible positions until he was named President of the company in 1970. After Partlow was acquired by Chicago Pneumatic in January of 1973, he assumed additional responsibilities as president of Qualitrol and Dynapar; two of C.P.'s companies. Upon relinquishing presidency of Partlow, he continued as a Chicago Pneumatic vice president and head of the parent company's instrument and control group until retiring in January of 1980. Mr. McGrew served on the Board of Directors of St. Lukes memorial Hospital Center, chairing the Building and Grounds Committee from 1977 until the present time.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford and St. James Church in Lake Pleasant. He was a member of the Yahnundasis Golf Club and the Ft. Schuyler Club. (Country Clubs)
He is survived by his wife, Lee; two brothers, Harold, of Treasure Island, FL, and Mac, of Palm Beach, Fl; and a sister, Eillene Hawk, of Downer's Grove, IL. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
