Darrin Carl Peterson, 54, of Nampa, died peacefully on April 23, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born on September 11, 1960 in WaKeeney, Kansas, the third child to Kermit and Ollie Peterson. Darrin lived with his family in WaKeeney and Hutchinson Kansas until he moved with his family in July 1965 to Nampa, Idaho. He resided the remainder of his life in Nampa, attending Nampa public schools.

Darrin enlisted in the U.S. Army and served four years at Ft. Lewis Crystal Mountain Ranger's Camp at Huckleberry Creek. His trade specialty was diesel mechanic, as well as teaching survival skills, mountain climbing, repelling and skiing to the officers of the US Army. Also, Darrin and his dog Tucker, (a Malamute, Husky, German Shepard, Wolf mix) climbed Mount Adams and Mountain Rainier together. Medals and Awards he received include Good Conduct Metal, Sharpshooter Badge, and Army Service Ribbon.

After leaving the military with an Honorable Discharge, Darrin began what was to be his lifetime career working on Union Pacific Railroad in the engineering programs. He quickly progressed to being in charge of the big work crews and eventually became Foreman and then a Supervisor. From the west coast to the Midwest, Darrin travelled countless miles. Darrin was well known and respected throughout the UPPR as being the man that could get a job done skillfully and no less than perfect. He was admired by the men that he worked with and he touched many lives of the men he worked with and for on the UPRR. His knowledge of the overall projects and track was phenomenal and he had an enormous amount of love for his job.

It was while he was working on the Blue Mountains near La Grande, Oregon, that he met future wife, Maureen Theresa Kasnick, and they were married in McCall, Idaho on July 4, 1987, and shared close to 28 years of a happy marriage.

During their marriage they shared the love of the outdoors. They enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, camping and hanging out on the lake in Donnelly at the Darrin's Dad home.

Darrin was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved to shoot guns. Additionally, Darrin and Maureen would every year go to Donnelly and cut wood for his Dad and his own home.

Darrin was a hard worker and never did anything halfway. He worked hard, loved and cared deeply for his family and friends. As it was once said, "When you met Darrin, you knew he was a genuine and caring person."

He will be sorely missed by his wife, Maureen Peterson; his father, Kermit Peterson, of Donnelly; his sister, Cristi (Greg) Heins, of Tangent, Alberta; brothers: Kip Peterson, of Nampa, and Konnel Peterson, of Boise; Bob Kasnick, father-in-law, of Nampa; Kevin (Renae) Kasnick, brother-in-law, Elk Grove CA; Colleen (Mike) Fein, sister-in-law, of Donnelly; eight nieces and nephews; three great-nieces and nephews; "the boys" (Cody, Milo, and Chet) his special furry friends; as well as numerous supportive extended family, an enormous UPRR family, and friends.

He was in preceded in death by his mother, Ollie Peterson Reser; his mother-in-law, Eileen Kasnick; and his stepmother, Janice (Butner) Peterson.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Darrin's life will be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday, April 28th at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Ave So., Nampa. Following the Memorial service on Tuesday there will be a gathering at Crescent Brewery, 1521 Front St Nampa.
