Jospeh is the son of Frederick Harn Albertson (1797–1884) and Amanda Armstrong (1800–1853), both of Ruth, New York.
Joseph seems to have had a child in 1849 before his marriage to Flora. The child's name was William Taylor Albertson, who lived in Healdsburg, just north of San Francisco, for quite some time. We don't currently know the mother of this child.
He marries Flora Elma Wilbur on March 20, 1856, location unknown, but probably Rush, New York, as that is where Flora is living at the time. They are in San Francisco at least by 1868. Joseph is a physician. He had both a practice and taught at the famous Hahnemann Hospital College.
