ADRIAN — Bob Wood, 80, of Adrian died Saturday, April 25, 2015.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Adrian United Methodist Church with David Bonnell officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Vega.

Mr. Wood was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Brownwood to Nina and E.K. Wood. He was the youngest of 10 children and grew up on his family farm near Regency.

He married Wade Ann Harbour on May 1, 1954, in Lubbock. For 61 years, Bob and Ann built a life together, living first in Brownfield before moving to Adrian in 1967. May 1, 2015, would have been their 62nd anniversary.

He graduated from Mullin High in 1953 and from Texas Tech with a Bachelors of Science Degree in science and agriculture in 1966. Prior to college he worked 15 years for Pioneer Natural Gas Company.

Bob was a teacher, farmer and rancher. He was the first Ag teacher at Adrian ISD and retired in 2000 after 35 years of inspiring the same values of hard work, creativity and ingenuity in his students that he instilled in his own family members. His memory will always be carried in the stories about “Mr. Bob’s” classes and the summers his grandchildren spent with him.

Bob was an inventor who always found ways to improve the things around him. He was never afraid to take on tasks other men would have shied from. Together with Ann, he built his home from the ground up with his own hands from lumber he salvaged from a local grain elevator.

Bob was a loving husband, father and grandparent. His friends will remember his jokes and stories. Every year on his birthday he reminded his family that he had outlived Elvis (who shared his birthday) by one more year. He loved being in the outdoors and was an avid snow and water skier. From the Hill Country of Texas to the mountains and forests of the Northeast, Bob and Ann travelled together to 46 states. They once traveled 6,000 miles of American back roads in 28 days. On that trip alone they covered 27 states, with their pickup, their RV and a dog named Bud. Bob loved simple joys at home like morning sunrises viewed from his front window and 4 p.m. coffee with friends at Kevin’s Coffee Shop.

Bob was an active member of Adrian United Methodist Church. He was honored as Oldham County Man of the Year in 2000. He was an active member of the Adrian Lion’s Club, Oldham County Soil Conservation Board, a State Director Texas VATAT Retired Teachers, and a State Director of the Texas Vocational Ag Teach Association. He was an appointed as an honorary member of the National FFA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Colin.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; a daughter, Janice McKenzie and husband L.B. Jr. of Fort Stockton; a son, Ernie Wood and wife Brenda of Colorado City; two sisters, Anna Bell Egger and Jean Sutton and husband Bob; a sister-in-law, Sadie Wood; six grandchildren, Randall McKenzie and wife Meagan, Casee McCulloch and husband Jeremy, Ty Wood and wife Amie, Trey Wood and Karen Franco, Colby Clifford and husband Warren and Byron McKenzie and wife Tasha; 12 great-grandchildren, Callen, Kutter, Hanna, Berkley, Isabella, Carolina, Cameron, Landon, Jacquline, Zac, Eli and Braxton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to Adrian United Methodist Church, 307 Grant, Adrian, TX 79001.
