Providence (known as "Prov") was the son of William (Sr.) and Armenta Jane Elmore and the husband of Martha S. McGee (McGehee). Prov served as Mayor of Durant, MS, in 1901 and Editor of the "Durant News" in the 1920's. He was a Member of the Masonic Order and a member of the Methodist Church. As a land owner and realtor he church member he was deeply involved in the civic life of Durant. He celebrated his 86th birthday and shortly thereafter suffered a stroke and died. His obituary lists his surviving children as Dr. R.C. Elmore (Durant), Mrs J. Griffin (Vicksburg), Mrs. M.T. Williams (Durant); surviving grand children listed are Mrs. Harry Gwinner (Atlanta), Mrs. George Povall (Lxington), Roy Williams (Durant). One Great-Grandson,Roy Elmore Povall (Lexington) is listed as surviving.
