Lee Milman, devoted wife, loving mother and dedicated humanitarian passed away on December 31, 2003 when she lost her battle with pancreatic cancer.

Lee was the daughter of the late Syd and Joseph Kaplan of New York City.

Although Lee was born in Philadelphia, she was raised and nurtured in Manhattan where her father was highly respected in his career as a Resident Buyer in the Women's apparel field. Lee's artistic talent and curiosity was developed at NYC's Art Students League and the Tyler School of Fine Arts at Temple University.

Her love of music was inspired by Marc Blitzstein, her cousin, who was a noted composer and conductor. He was best known for his adaptation of Kurt Weill's and Bertolt Brecht's "Threepenny Opera" and the opera "Regina" which was recently mounted in Miami by the Florida Grand Opera Association. Lee's creativity, tenacity and people skills were a perfect match for a career in public relations and charitable fund raising. Her career ladder started in New York with the American Jewish Committee, then to be followed by the directorship of fund raising and development for the National Council of Jewish Women, NewYork Section Always looking for the next challenge, Lee relocated to Miami, Florida and assumed the Director of Development at ADL (Anti Defamation League) where she remained for 10 years. Continuing her stellar career Lee accepted the greatest professional challenge of her life when she joined the American Committee for The Weizmann Institute of Science located in Rehovot, Israel. Her personal and professional commitment and enormous energy expanded ACWIS through out the Southern area. She supervised three regional offices - Miami, Palm Beach and the West Coast of Florida.

Lee met her husband and life partner, of twenty-five years, David Millman, on a rainy June day waiting for a flight at the Sarasota, Fl Airport. Lee and David were both conducting business, she for the ADL and he for Nova University, currently known as Nova South Eastern University, in his capacity as an Administrator and Director of various programs on campus. It was Love at first sight and the beginning of a lifetime love affair. Lee and David shared a life of commitment to each other, the Jewish Community, the State of Israel, Education and the welfare of neglected and abused children.

Retirement for Lee brought new challenges. Lee channeled her organizational skills and her love of children into her new role as a Florida Guardian Ad-Litem. She became an unrelenting advocate for her clients. She spent hours preparing for court, filling out administrative paperwork, hounding social service agencies and donors to supplement the funds needed for each case. Lee's tenacity altered the lives of children she came in contact with during her tenure as a Guardian Ad Litem. She was subsequently appointed to the Foster Care Review Board where she was able to properly supervise case management.

Lee was working on two assignments at the Crisis Center in North Miami, when she came upon a beautiful two-month old little boy abandoned by his mother. She promptly requested the court to allow her to become his guardian. Once on the case, she found a wonderful family who so wanted to adopt another son. The family, now complete, after three years of battling the system - Adam and Aaron are happy in a home with loving parents.

Lee is survived by her husband David Millman, her children Marilyn and Richard Jacobs, Zita and Bob Pavey; grandsons Adam and Aaron Pavey, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Seymour and Sylvia Millman, brother-in-law Hy Petcove.

Also survived by great friends Ethel Glass, Raquel Small, Clarice Weinerth, Joanne Kanofsky, Ted and Suki Nelson the Isen family of Philadelphia and cousin Elaine Stoneberg.
