Helen Marie- Abbey, 86, of Hawarden
died Tuesday, October 4, 1994, at
Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday,
October 7, at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Hawarden with the Rev.
Loren Vogler officiating. Burial took
place in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation
began at 1 p.m. Thursday, and the
family was present from 7 to 8:30 p.m.,
at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in
Hawarden.
Mrs. Abbey, the former Helen
Marie Boisen, was born February 26,
1908, in Bancroft, SD, the daughter of
William and Hannah (Nenaber)
Boisen. She married Roy Abbey
February 25, 1932, in Sioux Falls, SD.
The couple farmed near Alcester, SD,
and later near Ireton. They retired into
Hawarden in 1970. Mr. Abbey died
January 1, 1976, and she moved to the
care center April 10, 1991.
Mrs. Abbey was a member of Trinity
Lutheran Church in Hawarden. She
was a past active member of St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Ireton and the
Ladies Aid of the church.
Survivors include three daughters
and their husbands, Lois and Bill Jacobs
of Allison, Janet and Martis Jans
of Yankton, SD, and Janice and John
Vander Fee of Ireton; a brother, Glenn
Boisen and his wife, Annie of Pipestone,
MN; two sisters and their husbands,
Neva and Leland Kircher and
Bernice and Raymond Eilts, all of
Hawarden; and eight grandchildren,
Mark Jacobs, Jim Jans, Tom Vander
Feen, Greg Vander Feen, Holly Jacobs,
Kim Buryanek, Lynn Sweetman
and Suzanne Vander Feen; two greatgranddaughters,
Chelsey and Carly Jacobs;
and many nephews and nieces.
She was also preceded in death by
three brothers, Ralph, Harvey and Orin
Boisen, and two sisters, Lois Miniets
and Ruth Popken.
