When Hitler invaded Vienna, Hans Stein and Edith (Feurstein) (Stein) Flagg went to Holland. Hans and Edith married and both became members of the Dutch resistance.

Their son, Michael Hans Flagg, was born in Holland in 1943.

Hans was captured by the Nazis and was murdered at the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945.
