Janet Goloub, 77, of Treichlers, Lehigh Twp., Northampton, Co., died peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at home with family.

She led a full life, even after being diagnosed with cancer in 1989, 26 years ago. She used alternative treatments to control the cancer and fought with an unwavering spirit and optimism about healing.

While concern for her children, grandchildren, and siblings was always present in her thoughts, she was also active in the community. She served on committees of the LEPOCO Peace Center, the Allentown Hiking Club, and the Lehigh Valley Arts Council, and was a classical music DJ and librarian for 20 years at WDIY, the Lehigh Valley's public radio station.

She continued her lifelong peace and justice activism, begun during the Vietnam War, participating in demonstrations in Bethlehem PA, Horsham PA, New York City, Fort Benning GA, and Washington DC, as well as via trips to Haiti (election observer) and Colombia (peace delegation).

Her hiking enthusiasm led her to section hike the entire 2,200 miles of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine and to shuttle section hikers passing through this part of Pennsylvania.

Her love of classical music included singing in the Masterworks Chorale, Lehigh Choral Arts, and Camerata Singers.

Born in Bemidji, MN, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Gertrude (Brown) Adamson, spending her formative years in both Minnesota and Iowa. Her young adult years were spent in Brooklyn NY. A graduate of Brooklyn College, earning a BA in Russian Language Studies, Janet's work career was in the arts.

She moved to the Lehigh Valley from Brooklyn in 1980 with her life partner Martin Boksenbaum and her two children, daughter Laura and son Ivan. Once here, she worked as an Art Administrator for the old Lehigh Arts Council; Historic Bethlehem, Inc. (she managed the contemporary crafts gallery at Luckenback Mill); and Hunterdon Arts Center (as its director) in Clinton, NJ.

Janet loved traveling, visiting many areas of the United States (such often involved some hiking), but also Bolivia, Cape Dorset Island in northern Canada, China, England, France, New Zealand, Nova Scotia, Russia, and South Africa.

She loved the outdoors -- especially being in the woods and observing and learning about geological formations, waterways, the understory vegetation, the trees, and wildlife. She enjoyed her flower beds, her garden (growing vegetables without pesticides or chemical fertilizers), and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors: Life Partner Martin Boksenbaum; Children, Laura Goloub and partner Eric Joslyn of Tempe, AZ, and Ivan Goloub and his wife Megan of Aurora, NY; Grandsons, Ian Goloub and fiancé Kristin Coder, and Elijah Goloub and partner Danielle O'Neill; Siblings: Katherine, David, and John Adamson. She was preceded in death by siblings, Margaret and William Adamson.

Services: Green Burial, Graveside Service Sunday, May 3, 11am, at Green Meadow Section of Fountain Hill Cemetery, Fountain Hill, PA. A memorial service at a later date will be announced. Arrangements by Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Allentown.
