Ray "Buzz" Busby, 70, of Amarillo died Monday, June 5, 2006.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Cal Farley's Boys Ranch Arena with Ty Jones, pastor of Cowboy Church, and Murray McKenzie officiating. Burial will be in Boys Ranch Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Mr. Busby was born Sept. 17, 1935, in Olton and was raised at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. Although he left there when he was 18, Buzz continued to contribute, in many ways, his time and effort to Boys Ranch. He was a ranch foreman there from 1965 to 1977. Thousands of boys at the ranch considered him a positive role model, always showing them patience and a kind heart. Buzz was also a rodeo cowboy and bull rider, traveling many places including Big Spring, where he met his lifelong companion, Judy Odessa Hodges. They married on Sept. 19, 1956. He also did many other things during his lifetime, including driving a dairy truck for Gandy's and building grain elevators for Gearn Industries in Hereford until his retirement in 1992. Buzz had great respect for God, Cal Farley and John Wayne. Buzz touched the hearts and lives of many including his family and the boys he raised at Boys Ranch. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Olivia Busby; two brothers, Clyde Busby and Calvin Busby; and two sisters, Mae Maness and Ida Galvez.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Debra Kay Murrell and husband Tim of Amarillo and Susan Wagnon and husband Phillip of Borger; two sons, Jackie Busby and wife Earlene of Amarillo and Paul Galvez Jr. of Waco; three brothers, Charles Busby and Hoytt Busby, both of Amarillo, and Harold Busby of Hereford; three sisters, Mary Russell of New Castle, Okla., Lois Miller of Tennessee and Joyce Zimmerman of Shoreview, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and more than 4,000 Boys Ranch sons.

The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch or Cowboy Church.
