My great-great-great grandfather was born in 1837. According to Hensley family lore, he and his brother were born in Tennessee to a woman named Susannah Hensley and an unknown father(s). To avoid scandal and possible execution for Susannah (apparently she never married) her sons took her last name: Hensley. So Burt isn't really a Hensley, but we'll never know.
He married a woman named Mary and had six children: Mack William (he married Eliza Boone's daughter), Samantha, Jane, Clarinda, James, and Priscilla.
Burt remarried, this time to Sara Huflin. At least five children were born to this union: Charles, Robert, Stephen Woodard, and Alice Landon.
Burt fought in the Confederate army during the Civil War.
I know that he passed away of natural causes when my great grandmother was a little girl - which would put his death year anywhere in the 1905-1915 time frame. I don't know where he's buried; if anyone knows anything about his burial info I'd be grateful to know.
Thank you so much Carolyn (M&C) for giving me some more information on Burt and his wife. I didn't even know what his full name was; but it doesn't surprise me that he went by his middle name. Most of my family did.
