Burton Clay "Burt" Canfield, 88, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cameron, Mo. He was born Jan. 26, 1927, in Belleville, Kan., to Charlie and Ora Mae (Hillbrand) Canfield. Burt graduated high school in Belleville, and then served in the Merchant Marines. Following his time in the service, he received his BA in Engineering from the University of Kansas. Burt went on to have a very successful career in the construction business, owning and operating Canfield Construction Company. Burt was a very kind, intelligent and distinguished man. He enjoyed family, traveling and was a man of great character. Survivors include wife, Donna Canfield; sons, James, Brad, Alan and Clay Canfield; daughter, Kay White; step-daughter, Lindsay Theobald; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members, and friends. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at the Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, 13th and Broadway in Kansas City, with The Very Rev. Peter DeVeau presiding. Visitation 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cameron or to the Alzheimer's Association and may be left in care of the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville.
