L. Earnest Derr Sr., 79, of Cogan Station, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 2, 2015.

Ernie was born to the late Lee Earnest Derr and Allene Rose Derr.

Ernie was a DHI milk tester and worked for several dairy farms in the Central PA area after graduating from Williamsport Area High School in 1953. He then went on to work for AVCO, and retired from Lonza Inc. in 1999.
Never one to sit still, he was most recently employed by Student Transportation of America as a school bus driver.

Ernie married Ruby Mae Welch on Nov. 16, 1957, at Buchanan Baptist Church, where the couple has since been active members. Ernie and Ruby were happily married for 57 years; together they raised two children.

Ernie's favorite pastime was being in the woods with his dogs, running rabbits with his beagles by day, and treeing raccoons with his Plott Hounds by night.
He was known internationally for his love of Plott Hounds and his knowledge of the breed's bloodlines dating back to the inception of the breed.

Ernie also enjoyed spending time with his family, including his five grandchildren and his four great-grandchildren: and his animal companion, Harley.

Ernie will be remembered as a man who was passionate about his faith, was loyal and loving to his wife, and who lived his life by Colossians 3:23: "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men." (KJV)

A funeral service to honor the life of Ernie will be held at Buchanan Baptist Church, Williamsport, with the Rev. Robert W. Regan officiating.
