Herman A. 'Barney' Becker, age 94, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015.
He was a World War II U. S. Army veteran. Herman joined the Illinois State Police on October 27, 1947 serving as a trooper in District 5, Joliet. On March 19, 1957 he was promoted to sergeant. Herman retired on September 30, 1976.
After his retirement from the State of Illinois, he worked as a security guard at St. James Hospital for 9 years. Herman enjoyed three decades of retirement. He was a member of the Steger V.F.W. and the Fraternal Order of Police.
Herman was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Becker; the loving father of Michelle (Darrell) Heldt, Kathleen (Brian) Wilson and Patricia (Ronald) Techau. Cherished grandfather of Derrick, Miranda, Daynen, Darren, Margaret, Kevin, Ashlee, Michael and Luke.
He was preceded in death his parents, Herman and Dora (nee Moeller) Becker and his siblings; Edward, Roy, Ruth and Wilbert.
