Donice Rose McCullers, age 83, of Mayo, Florida passed away on May 4, 2015 at Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, Florida with family by her side. She was born in Statenville, GA on March 23, 1932 to the late Oliver Hughes and Ava Cornelius Hughes. Donice was raised in Georgia; she met and married the love of her life, Mack T. McCullers, in 1947 while residing in Live Oak, FL. Later they moved to Callahan where they resided for 25 years until moving to Mayo on the Suwannee River in 1993. Donice loved her family and she enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Mayo and in her spare time she enjoyed fishing on the Suwannee River at her home. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Mack T. McCullers; her brothers, Dewey and F.B. Hughes; and her sisters, Ellen Cobb and Barbara Ann Hughes.
Donice is survived by her loving children, Daniel (Carolyn) McCullers of Lawtey, FL and Sheila (Doyle) Colbert of Hayesville, NC; her sister, Francis Wiggins of Jacksonville, FL; her grandchildren, Chad (Shelly) Colbert of Sanderson, FL, Wendy Colbert of Hayesville, NC, Jonathan Colbert of Hopkinsville, KY, Sean (Melesia Bible) McCullers of Jacksonville, FL, Angie (Justin Howard) McCullers of Yulee, FL, Stephanie (Jack) Siney, Tiffany (Chris) Doughtery of Starke, FL; her 11 great grandchildren, Kason, Madison, Bryson, Tyler, Mikyle, Aaron, Gavin, Laci, Blake, McKenzie, and Deklyn; her cat, Ali; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Donice’s Life will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Archie Tanner Funeral Services Chapel with Minister Norm Thomas and Minister Sam Durden officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Riverside Memorial Park in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
