Mr. Bobby Leland Green, age 87, of Lavonia, died Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at his home. Born August 2, 1927, in Macon, GA, he was the son of the late John Allen Green, Sr. & Ruth (Tyler) Green. He was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received a B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering. He served as Oglethorpe Power Corporation’s Project Manager at both Plant Robert W. Scherer & Alvin W. Vogtle Nuclear Plant. Mr. Green was Chairman Emeritus of the Board of The Leland Electric Company. He was elected in 2007 as an honorary member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was on active duty in the US Navy during WWII & then transferred to the Navy Reserve completing 31 years of service & reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was active in the Atlanta Metropolitan Council US Navy League & the U.S Jaycees. He was elected to Who’s Who in Georgia in 1982. He was a prominent supporter of the U. S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Peggy (Ford) Green; daughter: Debbie Cox of Lavonia; son & daughter-in-law: Michael Leland & Debbie Ann Green of Hartwell; sister: Anese Brown of Macon; grandchildren: Tracy Green Dove & David, Bryan Cox & Christina, & Billy Aaron Green & Erin; and great-grandchildren: Cooper, Madison, Ace, Allie, & Jennifer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Elmer Green, John Allen Green, Jr., & Tyler Green.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours, the family will be at the home.
