Mary Iola McConnell Woody, 84, of Pensacola, Fl died Thursday, May 18, 1995., in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Mrs, Woody was born Dec. 9, 1910, Stockton, Baldwin County, Alabama, to Thomas Taylor McConnell and Iola Richerson McConnell. She moved to Pensacola in 1916 and attended local schools.
Survivors include her husband, Willis Claude Woody, Sr.; daughter, Barbara June Woody Carlson and son-in-law Dr. John David Carlson; two sons and daughterin-law Avril and Willis Claude Woody, Jr. and David Woody; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services were held Monday, May 22, 1995. Internment was held at the Pine Rest Cemetery west of Foley, Al on hwy. 98.

She moved from Stockton, Alabama to Pensacola, Florida in 1916. They traveled by a covered wagon via the Old Muscogee Road via Bay Minette. The provider of this information Willis Claude Woody Sr. did not know exactly where she lived in Pensacola when they first arrived, but he did know that her Father (Thomas Taylor McConnell) worked near Sanders Beach building boats. Later she did travel to Birmingham to stay with her older brother Tom McConnell. Who worked for the railroad. Her Father passed away in 1925. She lived most of her early life at 1512 East Garden Street Pensacola, Fl with her Mother who was a school teacher. Her Mother attended the Richards Memorial United Methodist Church in Pensacola and was a Sunday school teacher. Both of her parents are buried at the Richerson Cemetery in Stockton, AL
1934- Married in Santa Rosa Cunty Court House, lived 1512 East Garden Street- Her husband being in the U.S. Navy was transferred to San Diego, California a few days after they were married.
March 1935- Joined her husband in San Diego, CA Went on a Honey Moon trip to San Francisco, CA after joining her husband. They won a drawing for a set of kitchens utensils. (Perfect for newly wed couple) Her 1st child was born in June of 1937 (Barbara).
Early 1937- Moved back to Pensacola. Lived with Mother at 1512 East Garden Street
April 1938- Joined her husband at Pearl Harbor, HI Lived at Pearl City- Lyla Street. February 1939 her second child (Claude) was born in Hawaii.
July 1940- San Diego, CA Lived on Arizona Street. October 1941- Base Housing Kanoehe Bay, HI
Dec 7, 1941- Were living in base housing when the Jap's attacked Pearl Harbor. She was moved in the middle of the night with her children to mountain caves on the main island of Hawii. Later she and her children were put on a ship back to the states. Her oldest child (Barbara) was in the hospital having minor surgery when the Japanese's attacked.
