Gladys was the daughter of Charlie L. Lynch and Harriet Catherine Todd Lynch. She was a 1935 graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School. She worked as a secretary at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the Charlotte division of the FBI, and for John Gold, Winston-Salem Chief of Police.
