Mother's Name: Maggi.
Aurelia came to America with her two and a half year old son, Sirio, departing Trieste, arriving in New York on the SS Argentina on October 10, 1922. They journeyed from New York to Merced County, CA. to be reunited with her husband, Giorgio, who was already employed by Miller and Lux, Santa Rita Ranch in Los Banos, California.
Upon her arrival in Merced Co., Aurelia began to cook for the ranch hands, and from this experience, was encouraged to open an Italian restaurant, which became Lucca's Restaurant in Madera, one of the San Joaquin Valley's premier dinning spots. Lucca's ravioli were world renowned.
A second son, Elmo, was born to Giorgio and Aurelia in Madera.
Throughout her life in America, Lela and her husband enjoyed hosting family trips to the beach at Santa Cruz to escape the hot summer weather in Central CA.
In September 1973, a fire destroyed the business, until the restaurant was rebuilt around 1975.
Over the years, Lucca's became a destination spot for social life where generations of valley families gathered to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, fine dining and dancing. For many years Lucca's was the meeting place for all local service organizations.
