Donald J. Schlater, 75, died May 3, 2006, in St. Louis, Mo. He was born March 26, 1931, in Patterson, Mo., son of the late Harry and Clare (Hixson) Schlater. He was united in marriage to Shirley White July 14, 1951, in Piggott, Ark., and she survives, residing in Patterson. Mr. Schlater, a lifelong resident of Patterson, worked for Brown Shoe Company for 27 years. He attended Patterson Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mary (Dannis) Hovis, Piedmont, Sherry (Andy)Horvath, Imperial; one son, Gary Schlater, Columbia, IL.; six grandchildren, Chad (Melissa) Hovis, Amanda (Chris)Dover, Brain, Joey and Jesse Schlater, Jarod Horvath; two great-grandchildren, Austyn Hovis and Summer Schlater. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy, Carl and Paul Schlater. The funeral was held May 6 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont, with Rev. Ric Stiegman officiating. A video tribute was played and Dennis Hovis gave a family eulogy. Christy Johnson and Wilma Seabaugh provided music. Pallbearers were Chad Hovis, Jarod Horvath, James Schlater, Dennis Schlater, Rick Mell and Tom Strubinger. Burial was in Patterson Cemetery.
