Mrs. Joe Laws Dies August 25th at Newton
Funeral services were held Monday, August 28, 1972 for Mrs. Joe laws, 83, life-long resident of this area. Mrs. Laws died Friday, August 25th at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton. She had been in failing health for several years.
The former Alma Etta Hendee was born Nov. 6, 1898 in Marion County, Iowa to Charles and Minerva (Thompson) Hendee. She was married to Joe Laws in Colfax on November 26, 1903.
To their union were born a daughter, Garnet, of Colfax, and a son, Joe, Jr. of Green Bay, Wisc. In addition to her husband and children, Mrs. Laws is survived by four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, two brothers, Edward Hendee of Springfield, Ill., and Oral Hendee of Detroit, Mich., and three sisters, Mrs. Mae Aitkin and Mrs. Louise Stevenson, both of Rock Island, Ill., and Mrs. Marie Tickle, Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, Frank, George, Sam, Lester, Clyde, Mitchell and James Hendee, and a sister Mrs. Vera Backham.
Services were conducted from Walters Funeral Home with Rev. Wm. Leonard Rowse, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Pallbearers were: Bob Hendee, Dick Hendee, Rev. Rorabaugh, John Rorabaugh, Keith Keipp and Frank Annis.
Organ music was provided by Mrs. Frank B. Evans.
Mrs. Juanita Paynter and Mrs. Harold Frey were in charge of the flowers.
Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.
Walters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
