The Rev. Leonard L. Borton, 65, of 264 Lakeshire Road, died Sunday at Crawford Long Hospital, Atlanta, Ga., where he had been a patient for a few hours. He was stricken at his stepson's home in Marietta, Ga., enroute to Battle Creek.

He was born in Alliance, Ohio, and earned a theology degree from Malone College in Ohio. He became an ordained minister in 1943 with the Friends' denomination. He served various churches in Ohio before serving as a pastor of Evangelical Friends Church in Battle Creek from 1959-69. After that, he went to Damascus, Ohio, from 1969-1974. In 1975, he returned to Battle Creek as executive director of Area Youth for Christ, serving until last August.

He attended Christ Community Church, was a member and past president in 1980-81 of the Battle Creek Kiwanis Club, a past member of the Memorial Park Cemetery Board of Directors and was a member of the Battle Creek Housing Commission. He was active in Wattles Park and Harper Creek school activities. He was a past member of the Forward in Faith Clergy Fellowship. While a pastor here, he was a committee member that helped start the Area Youth for Christ. As its director, he helped secure its current offices and helped start the Youth Guidance Foster Care Program.

His first wife,, the former Daisy Sakich, died in 1973.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary E. Althouse Stanley; sons, James L. Borton of Grand Rapids and Douglas Borton of Casselberry, Fla.; a stepdaughter, mary Beth Stanley of Battle Creek; stepsons, Thomas F. Stanley of Marietta, Ga., and Timothy L. Stanley of Albion; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Phoebe Cheek of Salem, Ohio; brothers, Lewis Borton of Yellow Springs, Ohio, and Roger Borton of Lakeland, Fla.,

Services will be at 11 am Thursday at Evangelical Friends Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Are Youth for Christ. Arrangements are by Farley-Estes Funeral Home.
