She was baptized by the Trinity Lutheran Church Pastor on May 20, 1934 and later confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Newell in August 1952.
Growing up, Joanne attended country school near Persia and graduated from Newell Community School.
On December 27, 1952, Joanne was united in marriage to Gunnar Pedersen at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Together, they raised three children: Carol, Diane and Dale.
Joanne was known for her fabulous cooking, baking and canning skills. She was a care giver to many and always willing to help out, especially at church. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading. Joanne will be loving remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Gunnar Pedersen of Newell, Iowa; children: Carol (Steve) Williams of Storm Lake, Iowa; Diane (Keith) Marshall of Indianola, Iowa; Dale (Dorie) Pedersen of Newell, Iowa; grandchildren: Brenda (Kyle) Klein of Carroll, Iowa; Brian (Tatum) Williams of LeMars, Iowa; Christi Williams of Brookings, South Dakota; Greg (Robyn) Marshall of Norwalk, Iowa; Andy (Meridith) Marshall of Denver, Colorado; Leslie Marshall of Kansas City, Kansas; Kelli Erie (Peter Ganahl) Ankeny, Iowa; Kane Pedersen of Newell, Iowa; great grandchildren: Alexandria and Aiden Klein; Brady and Addison Williams; Ethan and Evan Marshall; Taevah and Canden Ganahl; sisters: Arlene (Everett) Boettcher of Blue Grass, Iowa; Sharon (James) Taylor of Maysville, North Carolina; extended family and many friends.
