Alan F. Matthews, Sr., 77, passed away August 18, 1996, at his home in Virginia Beach, VA.. Mr. Matthews, a resident of Virginia Beach for the past twenty years, is originally from Pittsburgh, PA., then Wheeling, WV. He graduated from Triadelphia High School in Wheeling, WV, and also attended Belmont Abbey in North Carolina.

He is a retired manager of Clarksburg White Truck Co., a veteran of WWII, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He is past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Steubenville, Ohio, and a member of the Clarksburg Elks for over 50 years.

Surviviors include his wife Joan; two sons, Retired Colonel Alan F. Matthews, Jr., of San Antonio, Texas, and Timothy J. Matthews of Lynchburg, Virginia; two daughters, Gail Rochinich of Virginia Beach, and Christine E. Ancell of Alberta, Virginia; 10 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters.

Alan was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
