Walter E. Keil, Jr., 54, was born in Tacoma, WA. on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1946 to Dorothy and Walter E. Keil, Sr. He passed away in Lakewood on May 1, 2001.
Walt went to Horace Mann elementary school in Tacoma, then elementary and middle school in Bellevue where his family moved in 1958. He graduated from Sammamish H.S. in Bellevue in 1965. He attended the University of Washington and then worked for S and W Foods for several years. Prior to his retirement he was a client services officer for many more years at Key Bank in Seattle.
In his too-short life he contributed his caring and compassion to various organizations including several years as a counselor at the Seattle Crisis Clinic. He was an active member of the Tacoma Land Conservancy that, largely thru his hard work and absolute determination, was able to set aside and conserve several acres of land adjoining the confluence of Chambers and Flett Creeks, where he and Cordell made their home. After buying and living in the home for quite some time he learned from a family member that his father had fished at that exact place when he was a boy. Amazing "coincidence"...
Walt went to join his father Walter E. Keil, Sr., who preceded him in death in 1953 at the age of 39. He was survived by his beloved companion and partner of 20 years Cordell J. Shewell, his mother Dorothy N. Keil Vettori and stepfather Aldo J. Vettori, both now deceased, his sister Kathie Keil Crozier, his aunt Pauline M. Miller, now deceased, a niece and nephew and his wife, a grandnephew and grandniece, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, and his furry friend Buster, who, joining Toby and Jason, is with him now. Our hearts are breaking and we will forever miss our wonderful, funny, kind, generous, great Teddy Bear of a man. We rest assured we will be greeted with a joyous bear hug when we cross over to join him.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2001 at the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 9 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2001 at the Mt. View Funeral Home. Arrangements by Mt. View Funeral Home, Tacoma.
