Services were held for Joseph Rollin McCord Sr. in the First Baptist Church in Tahoka with the Rev. Jim Turner, pastor, and Rev. George Dale of Lubbock officiating.

Graveside Masonic rites were conducted by the local lodge at the the Tahoka Cemetery. White Funeral Home of Tahoka was in charge.

Mr. McCord, a prominent Tahoka attorney, died Friday August 26, 1966 in Brownfield General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born June 24, 1904 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to R.B."Bob" and Martha "Mattie" McCord. His family moved to Texas in 1911 where they resided in Baylor County. With his family they then moved to Lynn County in 1916. He studied law in Los Angeles and was admitted to the bar.

McCord returned to Tahoka in 1930s to practice law. He served two terms as County Attorney for Lynn County and later served as District Attorney for the 106th Judicial District.

He also owned a number of farming interests and was an auto and farm implement dealer in Tahoka during World War II.

McCord was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brownfield and of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Mary Jane Norman of Tahoka; one son, Joseph Rollin Jr. of Lubbock; his mother, Mrs. R.B. McCord of Tahoka; one brother, H.B. McCord Sr., of Tahoka; five sisters, Mrs. C.E. Short of Tahoka, Mrs. M.C. Thomas and Mrs. Carlice Edwards , both of Denver City, Mrs. J.K. Looker of Ingram and Mrs. Tom Mott of Dallas and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ferman Chapman, Maurice Bray, Winston Wharton, Oscar Roberts, Dr. Ed Broome, Ed Hamilton, E.L. Short and H.B. McCord Jr.
