William R. Lay, the subject of this notice was born March the 13th, 1811, in Grainger Co, Tennessee, immigrated to Missouri, in 1843, and settled in Adair county where he lived until his death which occured May 22, 1888. Mr. Lay married Miss Sarah Yadon, in the year 1836 by which union they had 9 children 5 boys and 4 daughters; his wife died October, the 8th, 1873. November 1875 he married Mary Skinner. Mr. Lay united with the Primitive Baptist church in 1868, and was baptized by Elder Buster, and it can be truly said of Mr. Lay that he was an honored citizen of Adair county, and a devoted christain [sic]. He lived some 6 miles from his church, but himself and wife were always present. He died in the triumph of faith in a blest immortality beyond the grave.
