Around 1775 William Gifford and his wife, Mary Chadwick apparently took up residence on Pasque Island off the coast of Chilmark, Massachusetts. There they had three daughters, including Elizabeth. She married Nathaniel Pease, a sea pilot whose job must have taken him in the vicinity.

Elizabeth and Nathaniel moved to Evans in 1818. Elizabeth died some time after 1820. Nathaniel moved to Wayne Co. Michigan between 1830 and 1833.
