George T. Carr Jr., of Bethel, VT, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015, at Gifford Medical Center. He was born Aug. 8, 1927 in Elizabeth, NJ. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Ruth (Patton) Carr and a brother, Alan. He graduated from Manasquan H.S. George was married to his High School sweetheart Eleanor (Doerr). He lived in Belmar, NJ most of his life and retired to Bethel, VT in 1982, place he cherished. George served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and worked for 35 years in the U.S. Postal Service as a branch supervisor. He was a life member and former Captain of the Union Fire Dept. in Belmar, NJ. He was also a proud member of The American Legion and charter member of Belmar Elks, past president of Belmar Board of Education and former president of the Belmar PTO. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball. He and his wife Eleanor were volunteers for Meals on Wheels. George was most proud however of his wife and five children and their families, Debra Seidel and husband Robert of Wall, George Carr III and wife Linda of Bethel, VT, Pamela Egan of Wall, NJ, Edward Carr and his wife Clare of Wall, NJ, and Patricia Chletsos and husband Thomas of Toms River. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 17 at Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Hwy 138, Wall. Funeral will be Monday, May 18 from the funeral home. Chapel Service will be conducted by Pastor Bill Morris at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations to First Presbyterian Church of Belmar, 600 9th Ave., Belmar, NJ 07719 in George's name would be appreciated.
