Her mother, Harriet was the daughter of Judge George and Lucretia (Robinson) Sharpe. Her father, Charles was the son of Nathan and Nancy (Hinckley) Allen. Abby had two siblings: Emma Lucretia Allen (1846 – 10 October 1848) and Ripley David Allen (1847 – 19 December 1936).
She married Charles Edward Thompson, son of John Terry and Sarah Maria (Blodgett) Thompson on 14 September 1868, in Connecticut. Charles and Abby had three children: Arthur Ripley Thompson, Harriet May (Thompson) Hitchcock and Emma Josephine (Thompson) Berry.
She died on 26 October 1935, in Hartford, Connecticut, at the age of 87, and was buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford, CT.
