John enlisted in the US Navy in December of 1942 and was trained as an Aviation Machinist. He was honorably discharged February 9, 1946, receiving the Victory Medal, the American Campaign, the Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.
After his service in the United States Navy, John furthered his education and graduated from Niagara University with a degree in accounting. His whole working career was with the Union Carbide/Elkem Metals Company. He enjoyed a long retirement of 24 years.
A very active man, he loved the outdoors, fishing and family trips to Allegany State Park. John was an athlete in high school and continued his love of sports through his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He attended as many of their school events as possible. He was a member of the WWII Navy Scouting Squadrons Association. He was an avid Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills fan. John, himself was inducted to the Old Timers Hall of Fame in 2003. He will be missed for his keen sense of humor, kind heart, the love and devotion to his family. For fun, he enjoyed drawing caricatures.
