Published in The Sierra Vista Herald (May 17, 2015):

Robin Gary Moore, age 66, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., died May 12, 2015, at Canyon Vista Medical Center in Sierra Vista, Ariz. He was a 45-year resident of the city.

Robin was born Sept. 21, 1948, in Independence, Mo., to Cecil Ray Moore and Frances May Wedlock Knisley Moore. His father was a printer and his mother was an LPN. His parents divorced when he was a year old. His mother remarried to Richard Leo Wallace when Robin was 4. The family moved to Seattle in 1952. Each year the family would move. Next it was Kansas City, Mo.; then Dallas, Texas; then Denver, Colo.; then Wichita, Kan.; then Littleton, Colo.; then San Diego; then Telluride, Colo. Finally it was Englewood, Colo., where the family stayed for many years, enjoying day trips in the Rockies, searching for ghost towns, and picnicking.

In 1968 he joined the U.S. Army and trained to be in the Signal Corps. With a straight face he said that he joined the Army to stop moving around. In the next 20 years he was stationed in places all over the world, spending two tours of duty in Germany and always coming back to Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Robin’s father, Ray Moore, was in the Army Signal Corps during World War II. Robin hardly knew his father and didn’t know that he was in the Signal Corps, yet Robin also chose the same branch. Genes must have been at work there, as they both loved technology.

After he retired from the Army in 1988, he went back to Fort Huachuca as a private contractor at JITC, retiring for good in 2008.

Robin never married, but led a full life. He was a computer genius, model-train enthusiast, and volunteer technical writer and advisoer for Miracle Horse Rescue. He was knowledgeable about gardening and Arizona birds. He made a mean pot of chili, would tell a funny story with a twinkle in his eye, and could hold his own with his older sister.

His sister’s love of genealogy opened a door to the past for the family. Robin’s second great-grandfather was John Creed Moore (1824-1910). He was a graduate of West Point, resident of Texas, and a respected Confederate brigadier general in the Civil War.

Robin was predeceased by his father in 1973 and his mother in 2007.

His survivors are brother, Richard Lynn Wallace, San Francisco; sister, Leah Rae, Laguna Woods, Calif.; nephew, Brian Kent Foster, Overland Park, Kan.; two grand-nephews, Overland Park, Kan.; cousin Carley Cole, Olds, Alberta, Canada; and our dearly-loved family treasure, 100-year-old aunt, Vera Knisley, Wahoo, Neb.

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Hatfield Funeral Home. Services will be at noon, also at Hatfield Funeral Home. Interment will follow with military honors at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista.
